The pages for William Doggett of Caroline County, Virginia, and his son Henry M. Doggett have been combined, as the only known descendants of William are through Henry. Data on this page comes from vital records of Caroline County, Fredericksburg, and Petersburg, VA, Confederate Service Records, Social Security Death Index, and relevant census returns. Data was furnished to me by Robert W. Gatewood and Betty Holland, and databases published by William T. Buchanan, Sandra Duncan, in the Wyatt Family Tree, and in World Family Tree v. 10, #3461, have been helpful. The Richards Family Bible records published by the Virginia Historical Society have been most important in connection with the Richards line.

William Doggett, one of the sons of Thomas Doggett, remained in Caroline County, Virginia. and is the progenitor of most of the later generation bearers of the Doggett surname identified with that county, and of a great many of those who settled in nearby Henrico County and Richmond City.

Although no documentary evidence has been seen positively identifying Henry as the son of William, it seems sound to make this connection, and we have done so with a great deal of confidence.
